Farm Animals: A Photographic Journey into Rural Life

This photo album, "Animali da fattoria" (Farm Animals), is a personal exploration of the simple beauty and honest labor found on farms. These images are a collection of moments captured during my travels, encounters with creatures great and small, and a reflection on the enduring connection between humans and the animals that sustain us. I wasn't looking for perfect portraits; I was searching for the essence of these animals, their personalities, and the atmosphere of the farms they call home. From the early morning mist rising over fields of grazing cows to the playful antics of piglets in the mud, I aimed to document the unvarnished reality of farm life.

These photographs represent more than just pretty pictures. They are a testament to the hard work and dedication of farmers, a celebration of the natural world, and a reminder of the importance of sustainable agriculture. I hope that by sharing these images, I can inspire a greater appreciation for the animals that provide us with food and companionship, and the people who dedicate their lives to caring for them.

Technical Details and Travel Notes

  • Camera and Lens: The majority of these images were captured using a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV paired with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens. The versatility of this combination allowed me to adapt to the constantly changing environments and capture both wide-angle landscapes and intimate portraits.
  • Lighting Challenges: Working primarily outdoors presented unique lighting challenges. I often had to contend with harsh midday sun or low-light conditions in barns and stables. I relied heavily on natural light, using reflectors and diffusers sparingly to soften shadows and enhance the overall mood.
  • Geographic Context: These photographs were taken in various locations across Italy and France. Each region boasts its own unique agricultural practices and animal breeds, reflecting the diverse landscapes and cultural traditions of these countries. I aimed to capture the specific character of each farm and the animals that inhabit it.
  • Photographic Style: My approach was primarily documentary, focusing on capturing authentic moments and natural expressions. I avoided staged compositions or artificial lighting, preferring to observe and react to the unfolding scenes around me. I sought to create images that are both visually appealing and emotionally resonant.

This collection is a small window into a world that is often overlooked, a world of hard work, simple pleasures, and the enduring bond between humans and animals. It is a privilege to share these moments with you. Stimpfl Daniel.
