Chișinău: A Photographic Journey Through Moldova's Capital

This photo album, "Chișinău," is a personal exploration of Moldova's capital city, captured during my travels. It's not just about pretty pictures; it's about trying to understand the soul of a place through its architecture, its people, and the atmosphere that permeates every corner. I wanted to document the city’s unique blend of Soviet-era structures and burgeoning modern life, seeking out moments that reveal the character of Chișinău. From the golden domes of Orthodox churches against cloudy skies to the geometric repetition of Soviet-era apartment blocks, I've tried to capture the diverse visual landscape that defines this city.

The project became an exercise in observing light and shadow, especially in the often-overcast conditions. I aimed to capture the city's mood, whether it was the romantic glow of heart-shaped lights on a quiet street or the vibrant streaks of traffic on an illuminated bridge at night. The urban density and the stark beauty of the concrete buildings were recurring themes, reflecting the city's history and its ongoing transformation.

I had to rely on careful composition and post-processing to bring out the details and mood in the images. The ISO range varied from 50 to 2500 depending on the available light.

Photographing the city meant engaging with this history, documenting the remnants of the past alongside the signs of a changing future. The blend of architectural styles is a key element of the city's visual identity.
