A Day in Pesaro 2016: Urban Art and Reflective Moments

That crisp autumn day, November 1st, 2016, called me to Pesaro, a city that always reveals something new, even on a brief visit. It wasn't a long journey, just a precious window of time to immerse myself in the urban fabric of Pesaro, Italy, and let my lens guide me through its unexpected beauty. My aim was to capture the interplay between human creativity and the natural world, particularly the urban sculptures and serene parks scattered across this charming part of Pesaro e Urbino. I found myself drawn to the unique installations, the way light played on different textures, and the quiet beauty of a city preparing for winter. From striking public art to the subtle details within green spaces, every corner offered a story. It was a day of seeking out the unconventional, finding reflections, and appreciating the fleeting moments of art in daily life.

Behind the Lens in Pesaro

  • For this intensive day in Pesaro, I relied on a versatile kit to adapt to every scenario. My trusty Canon EOS 700D, paired with the EF-S10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens, allowed me to capture wide, immersive perspectives of the urban installations and expansive park views. For quick, spontaneous shots and capturing intricate details, my OPPO Find X5 and Sony G8141 smartphones were invaluable. This combination gave me the flexibility to experiment with different angles and compositions, with ISO settings ranging from a clean 40 up to 1600 as the light began to fade.
  • The early November light in Pesaro presented its own set of challenges and opportunities. While the autumn sun offered a beautiful, soft quality for much of the day, it also meant rapidly changing conditions, especially as dusk approached. I often found myself working with strong contrasts, particularly when framing reflective surfaces or capturing the interplay of natural light on metal and stone sculptures. The challenge was to balance the bright highlights with the deep shadows, preserving detail across the dynamic range to truly convey the mood of the installations.
  • Pesaro, nestled on the Adriatic coast in the Marche region of Italy, is a city rich in history and culture, yet it constantly embraces contemporary art. While known for its Rossini heritage and Renaissance architecture, my focus was on its modern face – the urban sculptures and thoughtfully designed parks that bring art into public spaces. This blend of the historic and the modern provided a fascinating backdrop for my photographic exploration, from grand installations to subtle artistic touches within the city's green heart.
  • My approach during this trip to Pesaro was largely about observation and finding unique perspectives. I was particularly drawn to capturing reflections – in water, glass, or polished surfaces – which often added another layer of depth and abstraction to the scene. Whether it was framing a striking sculpture through a shimmering portal effect or isolating a vibrant detail against a muted background, I aimed for compositions that highlighted the artistic intent while also revealing the ephemeral beauty of light and shadow. The goal was to tell a story about how art lives and breathes within the urban environment.
This collection from Pesaro is a testament to the beauty found in unexpected places and the enduring power of art to transform a city, even if only for a single, memorable day.
